I once dreamed the dream of control software solving the environement problems. At first glance, it is astonishing that "clever" control strategies are not in use today. I proposed an adaptiv traffic control system 10 years ago. I had exacly the same perspective on the solution of environement problems. Unfortunatly "adaptiv control" is a solution for a traffic control problem. But instead of lowering CO2 emission, it rises the capacity which leads to more traffic and finally more pollution.
