I did a tricky refereeing job for Elsevier in mathematics, and the publishers kindly thanked me for my services, which they regarded as very important. As I am retired, and as a token of their gratitude, I asked if I could have a one year online subscription to the journal for which I refereed. There came no answer! This illustrates Elsevier's extent of the understanding and appreciation of the work that referees and editors do for their journals.
